What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is the natural bodily response to stress or fear, often referred to as the ‘fight or flight’ response. When a person is faced with a threatening situation their body is flooded with hormones to help them to fight the threat or run away. If you’re trying to outrun a tiger, this is really useful, but not so useful if you're a demanding boss or screaming toddler, when fighting or running isn’t an option.

If anxiety is experienced repeatedly overtime without resolution, situations that previously wouldn’t have been perceived as necessarily threatening can begin to trigger an anxiety response, so the person can feel that they are in an almost chronic state of anxiety. This can lead to avoidance of situations or people, reduced confidence, feelings of low self-worth and depression.

Some people also experience Panic Attacks, when faced with an anxiety provoking situation. When a panic attack occurs, the bodily sensations brought on by 'fight or flight' mode are experienced very intensely which can be very frightening. If experiencing a panic attack it is important to try to remember that the physical symptoms of a panic attack, while frightening, are not actually dangerous. Learning to practice relaxation techniques at the onset of a panic attack can stop it in its tracks.

Hypnotherapy for Anxiety

Hypnotherapy is a very effective treatment for anxiety with long lasting positive results. I can help you to reduce your anxiety symptoms using hypnotherapeutic relaxation techniques.

It is not possible for the body to be in a relaxed and anxious state at the same time, so hypnotherapy often has an immediate effect on reducing those uncomfortable feelings of anxiety! I intend for you to leave a session with me feeling refreshed and calmer than you have felt in a while.

During our sessions together we will work to uncover and resolve any issues that are contributing to the anxiety. I will also give you the tools to help you to maintain a level of calm and balance in your life, between sessions and into the future after you have finished your therapy sessions with me.
